STUCK IN MY HEAD
It is very risky to do a Bowie cover. Taking on charismatic leaders with their own most legendary masterpieces is usually rock n’ roll suicide, even if you are showing your love.
Two bands, BB Brunes and Stuck In The Sound, did it unusually well on the French TV show Taratata, which gave me the occasion to explore the second a bit for today’s post. I had heard about Stuck In The Sound before but never really got into them. After seeing their show on Taratata, and especially after listening to Jose Reis Fontao voice, I wanted to know more. I listened to their first album, “Never Mind The Living Dead” and was interested—then their second, “Shoegazing Kids” a very surfable tidal wave. The theme of the album, adolescence, works to bring out that long-forgotten palette of pasty emotions, a kind of sweaty elation—I love it. What was only a little musical digging turned into a veritable obsession… a word that I do not use lightly, as I spent three hours today watching all of their music videos, live concerts and interviews on the Internet.
And so, I alert you all to the majesty of Fontao’s voice: it’s the product of a thousand golden cigarettes, intense, unique, but above all enchanting, and it will absolutely not untie me from its steel strings.
